The Office of the Public Independent Conciliator on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, hosted a town hall meeting with community stakeholders of Muyuka Municipality. The event, themed “Office of the Public Independent Conciliator: Working Closely with Community Stakeholders of Muyuka Municipality to Improve Local Governance through Quality Services Delivery to Users,” aimed to sensitize the population on the existence and missions of OPIC, as well as the rights and responsibilities of citizens towards the council.

The town hall meeting attended by the Divisional Officer of Muyuka subdivision and municipal authorities of the Muyuka Council was a platform for community stakeholders to engage with the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator and foster a collaborative environment to improve local governance and service delivery.

Speaking during the meeting, Fonju Bernard, the representative of the Public Independent Conciliator, said the organization of the town hall meeting proves OPIC’s fervent desire to accompany the Municipality of Muyuka to improve the quality-of-service delivery to users in order to meet their expectations. He went further to highlight OPIC’s role of encouraging users and the council to collaborate in order to ensure sustainable growth, peace, and development in the municipality.

The deliberation marked by presentations on the Missions of the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator and the Rights and Responsibilities of Users of Council services respectively, paved the way for the participants to raise major preoccupations concerning the delivery of services by the Council during the interactive session. Some major concerns raised centred on hygiene and sanitation, disorder in the motor parks, and insecurity in the markets. In response, the Council took the commitment to address these issues within a possible timeframe.

During his closing remarks, the representative of the Public Independent Conciliator, Bernard Fonju called on the Council and population to establish positive collaboration with its citizens/service users. He urged organized groups (market vendors, bike riders, and drivers) to know how to meet and approach the council administration. On the other-hand, he advised the council administration to demonstrate goodwill and proactivity towards resolving issues affecting the welfare and wellbeing of the population.
