Community stakeholders of Limbe II municipality have been educated on the missions of the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator (OPIC), the importance of Civil Status Documents as well as on their rights and obligations as users of council services. This happened during a Townhall meeting organized by the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator on Wednesday, 11th June 2025, at the Limbe II Council Hall. The objective of the meeting held under the theme “Office of the Public Independent Conciliator: Strengthening Collaboration with Community Stakeholders of Limbe II Municipality and the Council to Consolidate Local Governance through Quality Services Delivery” was to engage participants with OPIC and the Council as well as educate them on their rights and reciprocal responsibilities.

Chaired by the Public Independent Conciliator, Mme Telelen Dorothy Atabong Motaze, the meeting attended by the D.O for Limbe II subdivision and the Mayor of Limbe II Municipality witnessed the participation of Limbe II Councillors, staff, village neighbourhood committee members, traditional rulers, religious leaders, market vendors, taxi drivers and bike riders.

Speaking at the start of the townhall meeting, the Public Independent Conciliator, Mme Telelen Dorothy Motaze, urged participants to actively fulfil their civic duties including diligent tax payment, responsible use of public utilities and even the maintenance of their private property amongst others.
Apart from the presentations done on the missions of OPIC and on the rights and obligations of users of council services, Walters Yeyun, Regional head of the South-West Branch of the Civil Status Registration Office (BUNEC) drilled the participants on the importance of possessing civil status documents and precisely the birth certificate. He highlighted that the birth certificate is the essential gateway to every other legal document a citizen requires to meet their civic rights and responsibilities. He recommended that a child’s birth be declared at the municipal council within 90 days for free issuance of the birth certificate.

The interactive session which followed the presentations was an august opportunity for the users of council services to clarify doubts about their civic rights and obligations including the missions of OPIC. At the close of the meeting, Mme. Telelen Dorothy Motaze invited the participants to relay the information gained to their peers and family members back home and in the community.
