The Second Secretary of the British High Commission in Cameroon, Lisa Jennians recently paid a working visit to the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator (OPIC). The purpose of the visit which took place on Wednesday 23rd July 2025, the British diplomat stated was to gain insight into the institution’s role in promoting good governance and settling disputes.
During the visit, the Second Secretary engaged in discussions with the Public Independent Conciliator to understand her role and the institution’s mandate, missions and impact on the country’s decentralization policy in the South-West Region.
In addition to presenting and explaining OPIC’s role in ensuring quality service delivery, promoting good governance, and enhancing accountability among decentralized entities as well as its efforts to sensitized the population about the existence of the institution, the PIC also informed her guest about benchmarking meetings organized by the British Foreign Office with various ombudsman institutions in the United Kingdom, from which OPIC had benefited.
During the discussion, Lisa Jennians praised OPIC for its role in promoting good governance and resolving disputes peacefully. She also commended the PIC’s efforts to raise public awareness about OPIC and its missions. At the end of the meeting, the Public Independent Conciliator presented the British diplomat with documents outlining OPIC’s missions, along with a symbolic gift to commemorate the working visit.
