Nguti Town-Hall meeting: Community Stakeholders and Council clear doubts on Issues related to Service Delivery

Community stakeholders and Nguti council have cleared doubts related to the delivery of quality service in the municipality. This happened during a town-hall meeting organized by the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator on June 7th 2024 at the Nguti Council Hall. The meeting which held under the theme: “Office of the Public Independent Conciliator (OPIC): Working with Community Stakeholders of the Nguti Council Area to Enhance Services Delivery to meet the Expectations of service users”, brought together some 150 participants comprise of traditional rulers, religious authorities, quarter heads, women and youth groups, motor-bike/car drivers and economic operators including some elites and administrative and municipal authorities.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, the Public Independent Conciliator, Mme Telelen Dorothy Motaze said the purpose of the meeting was to work with the Community of Nguti municipality to ensure the improvement of cordiality in the relationship between the council and the population through better services delivery and the promotion of social cohesion and communal harmony. It is within this backdrop that she called on the participants to keenly follow the presentations that were to be dished out to them by the resource persons.

The Second Assistant SDO Mme Tabo Margaret representing the Senior Divisional Officer for Kupe-Muanenguba Division on her part outlined two reasons why OPIC organized the town-hall meeting.  The reasons, she stated include; the sensitization of the Nguti population on the missions of the institution as well as educate them on their rights and obligations as users of council services. She went further to point out that the role of OPIC is to foster collaboration between local collectivities and the population.

After haven been drilled on two presentations on the missions of OPIC as well as the rights and obligations of users of council services, the participants asked various questions seeking clarifications on the missions of the institution. Some of the issues raised amongst others included, the absence of the Mayor in the municipality and the presence of electricity in some parts of the town while other areas are in darkness. The Mayor who responded gave answers that was satisfactory to the participants. In a nutshell, it could be deduced that the questions and answer session enabled the head of the municipality to clear doubts on the issues that were raised.
