OPIC marks its presence at the International Women’s Day March-Pass in Buea

The Office of the Public Independent Conciliator on Wednesday 8th March 2023 joined the rest of the women folk of the South-West Region to celebrate the 38th edition of the International Women’s Day. The institution which was officially taking part in the celebration for the first time, marked its presence at the parade in Bongo Square-as the Buea ceremonial ground is commonly referred to.

Under the leadership of the Public Independent Conciliator, Mme Telelen Dorothy Atabong spouse Motaze, the female personnel of the institution, marched-past under the watchful eye and encouragement of the Governor of the Region, H.E Bernard Okalia Bilai and other top dignitaries of the administrative, legislative and judiciary.

The occasion was also an opportunity for the Office to create awareness and continuing to sell the institution to the population. In this regard brochures on the Missions of the Office were distributed to the audience present at the grand-stand.

After the march-pass, the celebration continued with a ceremony at the office premises. The ceremony was marked by the presentation of a discourse on the theme of the Women’s Day (‘For an inclusive Digital world innovation and Technology for gender equality’) in relation to the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator. Presented by the Mme Josephine Andazia and Miss Aileen Ekang, the short discourse highlighted some actions carried out by the institution in using digital technology to sell its missions and functions.

The paper explained that the institution has been making use of digital communication devices, tools and channels like emails, mass media, smart phones, projectors, internet, website, intercom telephones, social media networks as instruments to sensitize the general public on its existence and missions.

In response to this presentation, while acknowledging the use of technological components like computers, printers, telephones and the internet to upgrade the capabilities of a gender integrated team in the attainment of its missions, the Public Independent Conciliator urged the personnel to continuously learn and apply new digital skills for optimum performance as the institution also aspires to attain higher heights in digital assess.

In her words ‘It will be more beneficial and ground breaking if the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator South-West Region, begins to explore other unexploited digital tools like conference call, database software to increase flexibility in the provision of services to the public and access to OPIC ’, she exhorted the personnel

After this brief moment of reflection, the ceremony continued with refreshment and informal interactions amongst personnel and guests of the institution.
