Personnel of the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator have been drilled on a set of values to constitute the core values of the institution. This was during an In-House Capacity Building seminar which took place on Wednesday 30th November 2022 at the Conference of the institution.
Organized on the theme ‘Core Values as an Instrument in Attaining the Missions of the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator’, the goal of the seminar was to inculcate values in personnel that will define relations among personnel, between the personnel vis-à-vis users in particular and the public in general.
The twenty core values in number; Team spirit, Accountability, Transparency, Credibility, Integrity, Impartiality, Dedication to service, Inclusiveness, Respect for Diversity, Confidentiality, Objectivity, Diligence, Discretion, Tolerance, Honesty, Independence, Equity, Being Responsible, Being Open and Availability, are expected to create an institutional culture for the body.
Opening the seminar the Public Independent Conciliator, Mme Telelen Dorothy Atabong spouse Motaze said the values which henceforth serve as standards for the institution had been carefully identified and defined to guide the conduct of the personnel towards the achievement of the missions of the Office. While she described the core values as ‘deeply held beliefs and fundamental driving forces’ she called on the personnel to make the values their daily working tool. The personnel’s commitment to respect the core values she mentioned will determine the appreciation and evaluation of the institution by users and citizens in general.
Explaining the core values, the resources person Mr. Fonju Bernard grouping them in categories, expounded that the values in the course of implementation, should not be seen as isolated but be perceived as positive interwoven and interdependent concepts. In regard to this viewpoint, while Independence he said cannot be exercise without objectivity, Integrity when demonstrated produces credibility. In the same vein, he cautioned that Team spirit should not mistakenly be interpreted to jeopardize Accountability and Confidentiality. He went further to advice the personnel to demonstrate Tolerance, Inclusiveness and Respect for Diversity. These values he emphasized will make users feel comfortable as well enable the public develop trust and confidence towards OPIC.
