OPIC Fosters Dialogue Between Business Operators and Buea Council

The Office of the Public Independent Conciliator on Wednesday 22nd July 2026 organized a sensitization seminar with Economic Operators of the Buea Municipality. The meeting held under the theme:  Office of the Public Independent Conciliator: “Fostering Collaborative Governance Between the Council and Economic Operators of Buea Municipality as a Pathway to Better Services Delivery”, brought together officials of Council services, market masters, municipal police officers, traders, transporters and other business operators.

Speaking during the meeting, the Public Independent Conciliator, Mme Telelen Dorothy Motaze said the purpose of the meeting was to improve dialogue between economic operators and the Buea Council.  She noted that many misunderstandings arise from ignorance of existing regulations by the economic including their rights and responsibilities. She also urged the Council to address the concerns raised by traders and the transporters, especially the need for improved sanitation, decent toilets facilities, reliable water supply in the markets and parks.

It is worth mentioning that participants were schooled on their rights and responsibilities including the functions of the market masters, park officers and the municipal police. They were equally reminded of the need to comply with council regulations, pay statutory taxes and fees and make proper of public and how to address their complaints to the Public Independent Conciliator.
