DIGITALISATION OF THE COMPLAINT PROCEDURE AT OPIC AND FEEDBACK ON LESSONS LEARNT FROM AORC RE-LAUNCH AND TRAINING IN DURBAN AT THE HEART OF A ONE-DAY IN-HOUSE CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP

DIGITALISATION OF THE COMPLAINT PROCEDURE AT OPIC AND FEEDBACK ON LESSONS LEARNT FROM AORC RE-LAUNCH AND TRAINING IN DURBAN AT THE HEART OF A ONE-DAY IN-HOUSE CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP

On April 30, 2026 at the OPIC Conference Room, unfolded a one-day capacity building workshop on the digitalization of the OPIC complaint procedure and feedback on lessons learnt from the Africa Ombudsman Research Centre (AORC) Re-launch and Training Programme at Durban, South Africa from 23 to 26 March, 2026. In attendance for this one-day training was Madam the PIC, Telelen Dorothy Atabong epse Motaze, Mr. Bernard Fonju, the Consultant at OPIC and all 18 OPIC Senior Staff. In her opening statement for the occasion, Madam the PIC underscored that the workshop was inline her vision of ensuring that the Office staff remained up-to-date on the skills and know-how to respond efficiently and effectively to the demands of duty and aspirations of the public.

The first presentation on digitalisation of the complaint procedure with SharePoint was facilitated by Mr. Mokube Derick, the IT Officer at OPIC, who schooled participants on a step-by-step case simulation – workflow automation – on the handling and treatment of complaints from reception to closure, a definite resolution by a conciliation agreement or otherwise. The facilitator noted that the incorporation of the SharePoint software in the process of complaint treatment was a laudable innovation driven by Madam the PIC, giving the opportunity for complainants to file their complaints and supporting documents via the digital platform on the OPIC website and track the progress status in real time from any corner without the necessity of displacement to be physically present at the premises of OPIC.

Presentations II and III were centred on lessons learnt from the Relaunch and Training programme organized by AORC in Durban, South Africa in March of 2026 and which saw the active participation of Madam the PIC alongside Mrs. Adel Achare, RO1 and Mr. Atemnkeng Michael, RO2. Presentation II was facilitated by A. Michael and centred on “Sustainable Development Goals and the Ombudsman: Promotion of Good Governance and Protection of Human Rights” with a focus on SDG 16 on Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. Presentation III centred on “Good Governance and Ethical Leadership, Strengthening the Ombudsman and Public Protector Institutions to Address Maladministration, Human Rights Violation and Corruption” and was facilitated by A. Achare.
